BUILDING BETTER BALANCE

Learn how balance affects your posture, movement, strength,

endurance and overall flexibility.

 

 

CARDIOPULMONARY REHABILITATION AND

HEALTH MAINTENANCE

Program Goals:

• To build and maintain optimal health

• To improve quality of life

• To have FUN!

Designed for those who have had coronary artery bypass, heart attack, PTCA, or are at risk for heart disease. The program can help you to gradually and safely regain or build your level of fitness. An orientation appointment must be scheduled to begin the program--please contact Margie Kobow, 812-961-2175. This program is offered year-round. Sign-up is done on a monthly basis.

 

 

CPR/AED/FIRST AID CLASSES

CPR/AED/First Aid skills are life saving. Our certified instructors will teach these skills in a supportive and encouraging manner. You will also receive hands on training which will help you to retain these skills. Full attendance is required. Choose from the following classes.

 

 

CPR/AED AND FIRST AID OUTREACH

Our trained CPR experts are ready to teach CPR/AED or First Aid classes to your group. This three-hour course can be done at your facility or at the YMCA.

 

Costs:

CPR/AED or First Aid

For nonprofits: $30 per person, with a minimum of 6 participants ($180 minimum)

For for-profits: $40 per person, with a minimum of 6 participants ($240 minimum)

 

CPR/AED and First Aid combined

For non-profits: $40 per person, with a minimum of 6 participants ($240 minimum)

For for-profits: $50 per person, with a minimum of 6 participants ($300 minimum)

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Participants will learn skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Prerequisites include:

  1. Swim 300 meters continuously using these strokes: (a) 100 meter front crawl with rhythmic breathing and propellant kick (b) 100 meter breaststroke (c) 100 meters of either front crawl or breaststroke or a combination of the two
  2. Swim 20 meters, surface dive 7-10 feet in depth, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface and swim 20 meters back to starting point with object. Bring suit, towel and notebook.

Minimum age is 15. Includes First Aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. Participants will receive required textbooks and CPR mask.

Participant must be able to attend all days (T/Th and Saturday).

 

 

PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

Please join us on the first and fourth Friday of each month from 1:30-2:30 pm at the YMCA. Also, please know that some sessions take place from 1:30-2:30 pm at Bell Trace (usually the fourth Friday of the month). Sessions will be led by IU Speech and Hearing. Caregivers, spouses and family members are welcome to attend. Day and time are subject to change. For more information, please contact Margie Kobow, mkobow@monroecountyymca.orgor 812-961-2175. No registration or fee is required.

 

 

PERSONAL NUTRITION CONSULTATION

Meet with our Nutritionist, Emily Wilson, and jump-start your

journey towards improved health and well-being. You will receive all the tools and resources you need to develop your personalized plan.

 

Starter Package

One 1-hour session and two ½-hour sessions     $50/$125

 

Single Sessions

One 1-hour session     $30/$75

 

Must sign up for the Starter Package prior to purchasing any single sessions. Consultations are not refundable without 24-hour advance notification. Any consultation cancellation will incur a $15 service fee.

 

 

S.T.E.P.P.S. - SPECIALTY TRAINING ENHANCING PROGRESSION PERFORMANCE AND SUCCESS

This individualized instructional program is designed to enhance your overall health and well-being. Individuals with medically based specific needs and/or concerns are encouraged to use this highly specialized training program where the instructor is a Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist. Physician’s approval required. Please note: All clients must have a YMCA membership.

 

 

W.I.S.E. - WORKING OUT TO IMPROVE STRENGTH

& ENDURANCE FOR CANCER SURVIVORS

This program will provide a supportive environment in which cancer patients, in all phases of recovery, work to improve their functional status and quality of life through physical activity and multidisciplinary education programs. A YMCA staff person will work directly with the medical and academic community to present current information regarding exercise and cancer recovery.

Sign-up is done on a monthly basis. Brought to you by the YMCA, IMA/Premier Healthcare, Olcott Center, and Indiana University.

YMCA'S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM

Y-FITNESS FOR LIFE

Y-Fitness for Life is an exercise program tailored to your health and personal fitness needs. This program is open to anyone who feels they will benefit from exercise, enjoys exercising in a group setting, and is open to making lifestyle changes. The main goal of this program is to provide a supportive social environment in which participants work to improve personal health, manage

acute/chronic disease, and establish healthy behaviors in an effort to increase their quality of life through physical activity and education. Exercise classes consist of initial monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate, and include a warm-up, flexibility, cardiovascular, and resistance training. Physician’s approval required.

WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM

YMCA Weight Loss is the start of a lifestyle that will help you achieve the health you want; you will learn about eating right, being active, and managing life at the same time!

 

The YMCA Weight Loss Program is a 6-week program led by trained health and wellness coaches. Each weekly session explores practical topics essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Examples include: healthy eating, increasing physical activity, healthy lifestyle skills, managing stress, recipe sharing, and

WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM - MAINTENANCE

Now that you have completed the weight loss program (above), you can continue your journey with our maintenance program. Each session will continue to explore practical topics essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This class also includes 3 possible group exercise classes per week.

 

Class is ongoing and sign up is done on a monthly basis. The 6-week Weight Loss Class must be completed prior to starting Maintenance.
