Meet the Teachers
Welcome to YMCA Preschool! Our teachers come from a variety of backgrounds; from experiences in other preschools, teaching elementary and special education classes, transitioning from parenting, and various other degrees into becoming preschool teachers. Between all of them, there are decades of knowledge that is shared and passed on between the classrooms in our programs. One thing they all have in common is that they are passionate about teaching young children and collectively care so much about early childhood development and each child that passes through our programs. Not only are we here for the children, but for families and parents as well. Whether this is your first preschool experience, your last, or somewhere in between, we are here to address the needs that are unique to each individual child. As educators we know that all children grow and learn differently and we respect and embrace that growth in each of our programs. Thank you for being a part of this experience!
I have lived in Bloomington all my life. I graduated from Bloomington North in 1986. I got married in September 1986 to my husband, Jeff. I have three grown kids, Erica, Jake and Daniel. I also have 3 grandchildren from my oldest daughter. When I’m not teaching preschool I enjoy being with my grandchildren. I also love traveling and love going to the beach.
I am originally from northern Indiana and have lived here since coming to IU in 2002. I love living in Bloomington with my husband and 3 daughters. I enjoy the outdoors, painting, and travel. I couldn't be happier to be back at the YMCA getting to know some wonderful preschoolers.
My name is Jen Naylor, and this is my seventh year teaching with the YMCA preschool program. I have two children who both attended preschool here at the Y and are now in Kindergarten and second grade. Teaching preschool is the most fun, rewarding and fulfilling job I have ever had; seeing the children of our community learn through play to be good friends, help others and enjoy learning never gets tired for me! In my time not spent teaching, I try to spend as much time as I can in my garden, spending time with my family and friends.
Hi! My name Jessie Pritchett and I have a husband named Tim and 3 children named Max, Bella, and Sam. They have grown up at the YMCA and it is like a second home to our family. After graduating from IU I taught special education and then kindergarten for 5 years. When my youngest, Sam, was born I became a full time mom. He started kindergarten this year and I'm thrilled to be back to teaching again! In my free time I love being with my family and friends, reading, and running.
Greetings! This is my second year teaching Pre K at the Southeast Bloomington YMCA. My family and I love to participate in all activities the Y provides, from exercise classes to youth sports activities. I have sent both my children through this very program and have loved every minute of it. Being a part of this amazing community at the YMCA is very important to my family and myself. I am originally from New Jersey, but have also called Rhode Island, Washington DC, and North Carolina home. My husband Mike and I settled in Bloomington four years ago with our two children, Sean and Claire, and have loved every minute! I received my B.S. in Marketing with a Double Minor in Psychology & Literature from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. I also studied abroad at Cambridge University in England where I studied British History & British Literature. My previous experience has been as a Media Strategist for government agencies and non-profit organizations. Working at the YMCA has furthered my passion for providing children with healthy, safe, and active learning environments. I am very excited to be working here at the Y. I look forward to sharing what the YMCA has provided my family with you, and further growing our community.
My name is Paula Burt. I am from Louisville, Ky and have been living in Bloomington for 24 years with my husband Ken. I have two children in college, Alex and Ali. I have been teaching preschool for 13 years. This is my 3rd year teaching the 2 year old class at the YMCA. What I enjoy most about working with toddlers is watching them grow and develop physically, verbally and socially throughout the school year... and of course, that they are a ton of fun!
This is Mr. Pete's third year teaching preschool at the Y, and it seems like each year is the best one yet! He especially enjoys playing music with all the kiddos, and of course, snack time! Before teaching at the Y, Mr. Pete owned a local restaurant and was a stay at home parent. He has two sons who both had their first school experiences at the Y. When he's not cooking vegan food or playing Dungeons and Dragons with his kids, he loves to read, play guitar, ride bikes and skateboard.
