POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aquatics Director, under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, will provide leadership and supervision of the swim programs and operations of the aquatics department at both branches of the Monroe County YMCA. The Aquatics Director ensures that high-quality, safe, and well-organized programs are offered and all aspects of the pool operations are conducted in a professional and safe manner. The Aquatics Director must be detail-oriented and well-organized with the ability to plan activities and schedules several months in advance. This person must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks, including but not limited to lifeguarding and administrative work. The director is expected to be an innovative and imaginative team player who provides support for swimmers, instructors, and lifeguards.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Related to the Aquatic Staff
- Lead the recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, and annual review process for all aquatic staff personnel.
- Develop and oversee lifeguard training programs with the assistance of the coordinators.
- Approve timecards for staff and complete related payroll duties.
- Develop the aquatic staff work schedule and ensure shifts are covered.
- Cover open lifeguard shifts and/or swim instructors within the association, when required.
- Supervise and coordinate skill checks.
- Ensure all staff certifications are up to date and reported to Human Resources Department.
- Provide guidance and direction to the Tiger Shark Swim Coach.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled meetings with the Aquatics Leadership Team.
- Related to Administrative Functions
- Prepare, track, and manage aquatic budgets, expenditures, and user fees.
- Attend the Monroe County YMCA weekly Director meetings.
- Work directly with the Marketing Department in developing program promotional materials for Swim Lessons, Tiger Sharks Swim Team, annual Safety Around Water swim events, and any other programs.
- Related to Group and Private Swim Instructors
- Provide guidance and direction to the Coordinators in managing the Swim Lesson programs.
- Develop and oversee the scheduling and monitoring of Swim Lessons and the coordination and tracking of all sessions.
- Perform progress checks for swim instructors.
- Cover swim instructor shifts when necessary.
- Pool Maintenance/Safety
- Work with the Facility Property Director in overseeing protocols to meet pool maintenance. standards based on best practices.
- Ensure all risk management procedures are followed.
- Review safety checklist weekly overseeing the completion of these functions.
- General
- Maintain the pool schedule which includes Swim Lessons, recreational swimming, and group aquatic classes.
- Assist with emergencies and serve as lead responder to emergencies.
- To serve as an ambassador of the Y in building relationships with members and guests.
- Responsible for serving members through personal interaction that will foster relationships with the members which includes email correspondence or fact to face interaction.
- Model and teach staff Y values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty in all staff interactions and training sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 2 years related aquatics experience preferred.
- CPR/AED, First Aid certifications must be maintained during employment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A demonstrated record of possessing a high degree of organizational and supervisory skills required.
- Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn other software programs
- Securing the Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification is required within the first year of employment.

Day Camp Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Camp Counselor’s main task is to be a role model for campers. As a leader, the counselor is responsible for promoting friendship, fun, and rewarding experiences for campers in a safe, positive environment. Staff are expected to be flexible, as they may need to move between different age groups at times. Staff flexibility is a must.
Camp Counselors are needed for multiple age groups.
- Preschool: For working with children ages 3-5.
- Elementary: For working with children ages 6-8.
- Upper Elementary/Teen: For working with children ages 9-13.
Camp hours are 8:30 am-3:30 pm Monday-Friday. In addition, most staff will be required to work a minimum of one shift of AM or PM Extended Day per week:
- AM Extended Day hours: 7:15 am-8:45 am
- PM Extended Day hours: 3:15 pm-6:00 pm

Sports Camp Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking fun, organized, sports-oriented staff members to join our growing Summer Sports Camp team! In this position, staff members will engage and play with children helping them shape their sports abilities and knowledge while fostering an environment where the participants can develop their personal character and teamwork skills. Sports camp counselors will lead daily scheduled activities for participants between the ages of 6-14 years old.
The Summer Sports Camp Staff will be instrumental in carrying out the weekly sports theme, collaborating with fellow co-counselors in providing basic instruction of the respective sport, and facilitating playtime and skill development activities. Sports themes will vary from Soccer and Basketball to Ninja Warrior and NERF to much more. Sports Camps run daily, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-4:00 pm including a supervised lunch and swim times for our campers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the Site Supervisor is to provide frontline leadership to campers and camp staff. Additionally, the Site Supervisor will coordinate behind-the-scenes needs for the entire camp, working closely with Camp Leadership to develop and facilitate positive and rewarding experiences for all participants. Direct communication with parents, Camp Leadership, and camp staff is vital. As a role model, the Site Supervisor facilitates character development and exemplifies the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists Camp Leadership in oversight and planning of daily activities, general camp operations, and administrative tasks to ensure camp runs efficiently.
- Follows all YMCA emergency procedures.
- Supports staff with camper behaviors.
- Reviews all campers’ health forms prior to their arrival and is familiar with health histories, allergies, and swim levels of all campers.

Group Exercise Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY
The Monroe County YMCA is currently seeking part-time enthusiastic, group exercise instructors to teach a variety of group exercise classes! We are specifically looking for individuals to teach strength-based classes and boot camp style-classes in the early AM, evenings, and/or weekends.
A YMCA Group Exercise Instructor provides quality instruction in a group setting which contributes to each member's health and fitness goals. Instructors must follow group exercise professional standards, build positive relationships with members and staff, and exhibit the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide a safe group exercise class with appropriate and varied movements.
- Provide modifications for different levels while leading group exercise classes.
- Always ensure the safety of all exercise participants.
- Attempt to know each participant's name and his/her individual fitness goals.
- Arrive early/stay late after class as needed to be available to members.
- Monitor and record class attendance.
- Ensure that equipment is in proper working order and that it is used correctly.
- Notify supervisor of unsafe conditions, injuries, accidents, needed repairs or member complaints immediately.
- Check communication outlets routinely (email, Group Ex Pro).
- Follow YMCA substitution policies and be willing to sub for others.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Current CPR Certification and Blood Borne Pathogens training can be obtained at the YMCA and must be completed within 30 days of employment.
- Yoga instructors must have a minimum of 200 Yoga Alliance Approved Certificate of Training.
- Pilates instructors must have a certificate of completion from an authorized Pilates Certification Program.
- All other land-based, aquatics, and cycling instructors must have a National certification through an organization that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA); upon employment or within six months of hire date.

Healthy Hearts and Active Lives Exercise Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Is responsible for performing and being familiar with exercise, clerical, participant care and education, public and physician relations, and any other aspects of Healthy Hearts & Active Lives programming. Supervised and directed by the Healthy Hearts & Active Lives Director or other superior HHAL staff member.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Level of knowledge: Basic knowledge of exercise leadership and being able to follow and eventually lead group exercises. Knowledge of heart and exercise physiology necessary and may be learned on the job. During the orientation phase, MUST complete CPR, New Staff, BBP, and the Daily duties check-off list.
- Minimum Work Experience: Participant contact experience is highly desirable, but not required. If not a member of the health care team, self-motivation is essential for familiarizing oneself with participants' situations.
- Interpersonal Skills: Highly motivated individuals with interpersonal skills necessary to relate positively with cardiopulmonary participants, their families, physicians, and ancillary staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Participant Care and Education – Assists with monitoring participants’ vital signs and EKG; participant orientation and education as they apply to each participant’s needs and medical history; emergency medical skills as required in a code situation; notifies the director of any changes.
- Clerical – Maintenance of supplies and equipment, recording of participant information on exercise chart; progress noting on participants.
- Public and Physician Relations – Acts as representative and liaison to the community and physicians in reference to Rehab, education, and participant well-being.
- Administrative – Involved in long/short-term goals for the program, recommendations for changes or additions to the program and program equipment, and quality assurance.
- Class Leadership – Begin class ON TIME. Follow an exercise prescription (warm-up, balance, flexibility, resistance, and cool-down) and lead a series of exercises suitable for this population. Be able to modify exercises for those with special needs. Motivate participants to exercise at a suitable aerobic exercise level. Be available to meet participants' needs during class time.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to move quickly in case of an emergency.
- Must be able to move up and down to and from the floor to provide CPR and other emergency care.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Monroe County YMCA is seeking lifeguards to help maintain a safe, clean environment in our aquatics facilities. Responsibilities include reacting to emergencies as a qualified first responder. Part-time staff should consistently work a minimum of 4 hours per week or 16 hours per month.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead by example and perform all lifeguard duties at a high level
- Ensure all lifeguards are maintaining a safe and clean pool facility during each shift
- Fulfill all lifeguard duties—on time, chemical checks, policy enforcement, etc.
- Communicate regularly with all lifeguards and staff regarding open shifts, special situations, etc.
- Be aware of pool(s) conditions—cleanliness, chemical balance, etc.

Personal Trainer

Reports to: Wellness and Support Services Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Personal Trainers provide safe and effective one-to-one personal training to program participants. They should be able to guide, educate, and motivate participants toward reaching their personal fitness goals, have a working knowledge of strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular training, and pass this knowledge on to participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Complete Personal Training Orientation, which includes reviewing proper protocol and shadowing two other trainers, before taking on clients.
- Call prospective clients within 24 hours of receiving notification from the Wellness and Support Services Director.
- Set up initial and follow-up appointments.
- Explain how the personal training program works and which personal training options are available to Y members.
- All programs expire 30 days (1-month programs), 90 days (3-month programs), or 180 days (6-month programs) from the date of purchase.
- Be available to train on an as-needed basis.
- Remind members of appointments and inform them of our cancellation policy.
- Check which options the member has signed up for and keep track of the number of personal training sessions they have completed.
- Be very familiar with and able to demonstrate all fitness equipment in the three weight rooms.
- Design and implement exercise programs that are both safe and effective for members and that help them obtain their goals.
- Put all active client files in the file cabinet in the East Side office. Give completed files to the Wellness and Support Services Director for filing.
- Continue to sharpen and upgrade skills in the fitness field. Must keep certifications current!
- Consult with the Wellness and Support Services Director as needed to plan an exercise program.
- Become proficient at both testing and planning exercise programs for clients.
- Document date, member’s name, and daily activity in the client log (PT database) and also on the clock-in space after each personal training appointment.
- Model best practices for creating and establishing a team concept with fellow personal trainers.
- Wear a personal training staff shirt and name tag when personal training.
- YMCA Personal Trainers may not utilize the YMCA facility or grounds for clients who are not YMCA members and/or have not purchased YMCA personal training packages.
- Personal trainers are not allowed to recruit YMCA members as clients for their own personal training business.
- Must maintain a minimum of three clients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in physical education, health, or a field related to exercise physiology, certification from the American College of Sports Medicine, related YMCA certifications, or certifications from a credited organization.
- Must have a positive and caring attitude and willingness to help individuals achieve their fitness goals by implementing the YMCA mission statement and character development philosophy (i.e., caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility) into personal training.

Play & Learn Team Member- Southeast and Northwest Y

POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of a Play and Learn team member is to facilitate play in a safe, enriching environment. We help children develop social skills through positive interactions; physical competencies through gross and fine motor activities; intellectual skills through participation in games, pretend play, music, movement, and language activities; and emotional competencies by feeling accepted and learning to accept others. We offer a safe, high-quality program as a member service that supports families in their quest for health and wellness and provides children with an environment in which to grow, learn, and have fun! Our program is often the first contact with the Y that our very youngest members have. Without our support, many families could not use their memberships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greet parents and children by name when they enter and exit Play and Learn.
- Actively engage with children in the room by playing, talking, singing, reading, pretending, crafting, etc.
- Be proactive in your movement around the room
- Create a warm and positive atmosphere for the parents and children
- Responsible for keeping children engaged in activity during their visit to Play and Learn by promoting and participating in positive play
- Assist in planning, preparing, leading, and cleaning up craft activities, games, stories, or movement opportunities
- Understand and enforce Play and Learn safety protocol
- Attend all job-related meetings and mandatory trainings
- Assist volunteers by providing guidance and communicating Play and Learn policies to them

- Must work a minimum of 15 hours per month
- Must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care and routine of children of multiple ages, including but not limited to interacting with children at floor level, movement activities, lifting children, reading stories, engaging with small or large groups of children, leading/directing activities for large or small groups, diapering children, and helping with toileting as needed
- Must possess oral, auditory, and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with children, parents, and other staff members
- Able and willing to work as a team member

The Rock Steady Boxing-Certified Head Coach/Class Instructor is responsible for teaching Rock Steady Boxing classes. This program is designed to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease through a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have strong communication skills and an understanding of the benefits of exercise and Parkinson’s disease.
- Must have a positive and caring attitude and be able to implement the YMCA mission statement and character development philosophy into the program (i.e., caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility).
- Provide a safe, nurturing, and friendly environment for our membership. Aid each member in adjusting their exercise and assist each member according to their needs.
- Part-time staff should work a minimum of three (3) hours per week on a consistent basis or instruct a class a minimum of twice a week consistently.

- Follow up with members from appointments and as needed
- Show interest in the member as a person and initiate interaction with and between members and staff. Be available to members at all times

The Youth Sports Supervisor is an entry-level leadership position responsible for assisting with the on-site coordination of the Y’s Youth Sports leagues and programs. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sports, enjoy working with children, and seek experience in supervision, leadership, and recreation management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise Youth Sports games and practices at assigned locations
- Provide guidance and support to coaches, referees, players, and parents
- Set up and take down equipment before and after games/practices
- Monitor player safety and ensure a positive and respectful environment
- Assist with enforcing league rules, policies, and sportsmanship standards
- Help resolve minor conflicts or issues that arise during activities
- Communicate effectively with site staff and report incidents or concerns to management
