Safety Around Water
Ages 3-12

April 11-May 2

From oceans to lakes to streams to swimming pools, water is everywhere: 71% of Earth’s surface is covered in it! And while water can be an irresistible place for kids to explore, play, and enjoy splashy fun, it can be risky for those who haven’t yet developed their water smarts. Enter: Safety Around Water.

Safety Around Water is a free four-session course, designed to teach vital water safety skills to children, especially those at higher risk of drowning. This program focuses on building confidence, competence, and life-saving awareness in and around water. This is not a traditional swim lesson program. Instead, it equips families with essential knowledge and practical skills to help prevent water-related accidents and build lifelong water safety habits.

A typical session includes:

  • Exercises to help kids adjust to being in the water
  • Instruction in “Jump, Push, Turn, Grab” and “Swim, Float, Swim,” which are two skill sets kids can use if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water
  • Specific safety topics like what to do if you see someone in the water who needs help
  • Fun activities that reinforce skills

Safety Around Water is free to participants and is open to anyone in the community who wants their children to learn to be safe in and around water. Each session group will have levels for beginner, intermediate, and advanced swimmers.
