Amal is a Certified Personal Trainer through American Fitness and Professionals Association. He has over 10 years of experience in competitive swimming. He also has experience in strength and hypertrophy training, with a concentration on compound exercises like squats and deadlifts. Amal has an excellent understanding of training with Machine Muscle Mind Connection, along with experience in biophysics--especially related to cyclic sports like swimming and track. Amal believes consistency is the only key to any kind of result, and even small efforts mixed with positivity can attract tremendous success.
After struggling with Type 1 Diabetes for more than 20 years, Ashley became passionate about fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle. She is certified in CPR/AED, is a NASM Personal Trainer, and NASM Weight Loss Specialist. Ashley believes exercise is just as much mental as it is physical. "When you feel good physically, you will feel good mentally and vice versa." Outside of personal training, Ashley competes in Mud Runs, enjoys spending time with family and pets, and loves learning about the military and U.S. history.
Brant has a B.S. in Recreation from Indiana University and is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer. Brant has over a decade of coaching experience of all levels. From three to 70 year olds, he training ranges from general conditioning to peak athletic fitness. Brant specializes in endurance sports, where he has worked with athletes from all over the United States and in five different countries. He is also knowledgeable in other areas of fitness. Brant understands that everyone comes from different backgrounds and have different obstacles to overcome. He will challenge you to be your best, but is there to support you through every step of your fitness journey.
Cheri has been a part of the YMCA as a member since 1983 and began working in Cardiac Rehab – Healthy Hearts Active Lives, in 2011. She is ACLS Certified and AEA AF Certified, teaching shallow to deep water and aqua jogging. She is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and YMCA Lifestyle Coach, RIPPED certified, and has completed TRX training. Cheri is also a coach with the YMCA’s Endurance Group and is Program Coordinator for Moving for a Healthier You: Weightloss through the YMCA. In her spare time she enjoys running, swimming, kayaking, biking and hiking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Having been with the YMCA for over 13 years, Chris has worked with a wide variety of individuals through different programs (Cardiac Rehab, W.I.S.E., Y-Fitness for Life) to provide functional and effective exercises by determining the needs of the individual and teaching specific exercises that will benefit her clients the most. She is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and believes fitness starts with taking that first step towards a healthier lifestyle and that improving your health and wellness leads to a more positive outlook on life.
Debbie has a B.S. in Exercise Science and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, group ex instructor, and ACSM Certified Health Fitness Specialist. Deb's strengths as a trainer are in her many years of experience and capability of making a client feel at ease and comfortable in the gym. As a trainer, Deb enjoys helping her clients reach their fitness goals and the challenge of reducing the fear that some people can associate with free weights and/or working out in the free weight room.
Jennifer is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Health Coach and carries a specialty certification through ACE in Orthopedic Exercise. She is an Electrocardiographic Technician and has a Bachelors Degree. Jennifer has extensive experience working with people post cardiac rehab, as well as with stroke, cancer, and Parkinson's patients. She is also a Certified Boxing Instructor and uses boxing as a tool when working with her clients. She provides a comfortable atmosphere with her clients to help them feel they can achieve their health and fitness goals whether it is for weight loss or merely getting in shape. Jennifer believes health, fitness, and wellness are the foundations of a happy life and looks forward to helping her clients achieve their goals.
Kirsten is a former collegiate volleyball player, a Rock Steady Boxing Coach, pre-school PE teacher, and Program Coordinator for the Indiana Sports Concussion Network. She has a Bachelors in Athletic Training from Indiana Stat University and has trained in the corporate setting addressing ergonomics and injury prevention; with youth, high school, collegiate, and adult athletes in return-to-play and performance enhancement, and in special populations with specific needs. Her passion for health and wellness started many years ago after an overuse injury taught her the value of holistic fitness. She believes every person is on their own fitness journey with their own goals and expectations and asks her clients to embrace their uniqueness and focus on their strengths.
Kristy is an ACE Personal Trainer, as well as a Group Ex, TRX, and Schwinn Indoor Cycling certified instructor. Kristy enjoys working with clients of all fitness levels and abilities, and has worked for the last several years as a Group Ex instructor for many YMCA classes. Kristy's trainer philosophy is, "I have learned through my group exercise experience that each individual has their own path to reach their goals. I believe in working with my clients to help them achieve their goals in a way that works for them."
Linnea is an ACE certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, Certified MuTu Pro (core and pelvic floor restorative fitness), Youth Fitness Specialist, and Pre/Postnatal Fitness Specialist. She also practices as a licensed therapeutic massage therapist. She has a BFA in Theatre and spent roughly 20 years as a performer before transitioning to professional bodywork and perinatal support. She believes that fitness should be accessible and approachable in order to promote life-long wellness.
Mary has 15 years of experience working with clients of all ages and fitness levels. Mary is certified in Yoga, Silver Sneakers, and Prenatal Fitness. She has her Personal Training certification through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Mary's fitness philosophy is, "I believe physical activity and fitness are essential to a feeling of well-being, and a good quality of life. After listening to you to become familiar with your personal goals and challenges, I can help you supplement your current activities to reach a more complete and well-rounded fitness program that fits your lifestyle."
Max is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and is in the process of becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200). With competitive powerlifting and Ultimate Frisbee experience, Max is skilled in sport specific training. As a personal trainer, Max believes in proper foundational fitness with an emphasis on form and technique to reach fitness goals. He also believes fitness is a lifelong journey that can shape a person in multiple ways. In his spare time, Max enjoys powerlifting, playing Ultimate, reading, camping, and hiking.
Naomi is an ISSA Personal Trainer, a certified Group Ex and PIYO instructor, and a Team Beachbody coach. Naomi enjoys working with clients of all ages and has a particular fondness for working with the senior population, as she worked in a nursing home for several years. Naomi has unique experience in weight loss because she herself has lost a signficant amount of weight. As a trainer, Naomi's philosophy is, "Fitness is about being healthy so you can have more energy physically, and have improved mental and emotional health by finding exercises that work for you! My motto, Fit For Life!"

Sarah is an ACSM Exercise Physiologist, Fit4Mom Back Body Instructor, Fit4Mom Stroller Strides Instructor, and she's CPR certified. Sarah has been grateful for the variety of experiences she has acquired during her time as a trainer. From cancer survivors to new mothers--and everyone inbetween--she has learned something from each client. Sarah's passion as a trainer is helping everyone reach their goals in ways that are unique to them. She believes there are ways to make exercising gratifying and make good health part of any lifestyle.
Shellie is a certified instructor for many Group Ex classes in land and water. She has a special interest in helping others achieve their fitness goals, whatever they may be. Shellie's personal fitness philosophy is, "Improving health and fitness is for everyone, and it should be enjoyable. Age and current fitness level don't matter... It's the commitment to start that matters." Shellie enjoys running and participating in triathalons in her free time.
Thomas is an ACE certified Personal Trainer with experaince in sports-specific endurance and agility training. Thomas believes that "there is something for everybody in fitness, and it is worth the time for everybody to find out what that thing is. Fitness is not just being able to move well; it is also eating well, sleeping well, thinking well, and ultimately, living well. Whether you want to run a marathon, lift the biggest weight in the gym, or you just want to type 10 pages in 5 hours because it is due in 7, there should be something that fitness can offer you. Whatever your niche is in fitness, I am dedicated to helping you find it, maintain it, and improve upon it."
Trey is a NFPT Certified Personal Trainer with a large emphasis on mobility training and minimizing pain. He has experience treating minor injuries and develping rehabilitation programs. Trey believes when it comes to exercising and training that intensity is key, and the quality of your workout is more important that the quantity. In his spare time, Trey enjoys weightlifting and strength training, along with other recreation activities. A recent Bloomington-ee, he enjoys seeing and exploring the city as a part-time Lyft driver.
Not only is Walter a personal trainer, he also teaches many Group Exercise classes at the Southeast Y. He is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and is currently pursuing a degree is Exercise Science. He specializes in older active adult strength training and adapted strength training. He believes working with a trainer should be fun, uplifting, and invigorating and that it should impart a sense of responsibility and accomplishment and that encouragement such as "starting low and going slow" while getting his clients to reach just a little farther than they have reached before.
