The Marlene Vass Youth Fund
The Marlene Vass Youth Fund honors the legacy of a remarkable leader who shaped generations of children through her vision and dedication. As a former Executive Director of the Monroe County YMCA, Marlene Vass believed deeply in the power of youth experiences to change lives.
As former CEO Roberta Kelzer reflected, “Marlene understood the need to focus on children’s health long before it became a national crisis.” The former Y Preschool and Camp Arrowhead programs she created were built on purpose‑filled movement, nutrition education, and empowering kids to make healthy choices—keeping young people connected to the Y well beyond their early years.
Marlene was the driving force behind Camp Arrowhead, recognizing that outdoor play, exploration, and connection help children grow stronger, healthier, and more confident. She viewed camp as more than just fun; it was a vital opportunity to stay active, build friendships, and develop lifelong wellness habits.
“Marlene saw the need, through the aging out of Arrowhead campers, to support these young teens with an active outlet both during the school year and summer months.”
Her passion for youth development extended through adolescence, addressing critical years of growth.
The Marlene Vass Youth Fund continues this commitment by providing camp scholarships and supporting health and wellness initiatives that help children thrive physically and emotionally. Each gift helps create meaningful summer experiences in a safe, supportive environment.
By giving to the Marlene Vass Youth Fund, you help carry Marlene’s vision forward—ensuring that her belief in active, outdoor, and accessible experiences for kids lives on for generations to come. Support the Marlene Vass Youth Fund today!
