Meet the Instructors

Anna began teaching Swim Lessons at our Y in August 2025, specializing in Levels 1-6 for children. When she's not instructing in the pool, Anna enjoys singing.

Blake has been a Head Lifeguard and Lead Swim Instructor at our Northwest Y since 2017. She teaches children and adults at any level of swimming ability and has some experience working with individuals who have special needs. Blake is available to teach at either the Northwest or Southeast branch on Fridays and weekends. When she isn't teaching people how to swim, she enjoys swimming, hiking, and camping on Lake Monroe.

Emily has been instructing Swim Lessons at our Y since May 2025 with a special focus on teaching toddlers, people with special needs, and competitive swimmers. When she's not teaching in the pool, Emily enjoys arts and crafts, rock climbing, hiking, and tennis.

Emma began teaching Swim Lessons at our Y in July 2025. She specializes in Parent/Child lessons, as well as Levels 1-6 for children. When she's not instructing in the pool, Emma enjoys cooking and volunteering with animals.

Erin is a Lifeguard and Private Swim Instructor at our Southeast and Northwest Ys. She teaches children of any level of swim ability and is equipped to work with those who have special needs. Hailey serves as a Lifeguard and teaches Group and Private Swim Lessons at both our Northwest and Southeast Ys. She teaches children and adults at any level of swimming ability and has some experience working with individuals with special needs. Hailey has been swimming since age 4 and has an expansive knowledge of stroke technique and development. Please contact the Northwest or Southeast Y Aquatics Coordinators for her availability.

Iván has been teaching Group and Private Swim Lessons for more than 10 years between our Monroe County YMCA and other facilities. Through these years, he has worked with many different ages and skillsets. Iván also has a background in music and education. Jacen is a Private Swim Instructor and Lifeguard at our Southeast Y. He primarily teaches children and adults who have intermediate and advanced swimming abilities. Jacen has been swimming since a young age and is familiar with stroke technique. For his availability, please contact the Southeast Y Aquatics Coordinator.

Jonah teaches Group Swim Lessons (primarily Level 3) and Private Swim Lessons. He also assists in coaching our YMCA Tiger Sharks Swim Team and serves as a Head Lifeguard at both Y branches. Jonah teaches kids and adults of any skill and age and specializes in intermediate and advanced swimmers. Please contact the Southeast or Northwest Y Aquatics Coordinator for his availability.

Although Joshua primarily coaches the Tiger Sharks Swim Team, he has some availability for Private Swim Lessons. He swam competitively from sixth grade through high school and is a Tiger Sharks alum himself! Please contact the Southeast Y Aquatics Coordinator for his availability.

Leo is a Head Lifeguard, Tiger Sharks Assistant Coach, Group Swim Instructor (primarily in Level 4), and Private Swim Instructor at our Southeast and Northwest Ys. Marcela has been a Group and Private Swim Lessons Instructor at our Y since February 2025. She specializes in teaching toddlers and adults how to swim, but has experience with all ages and individuals with adaptive needs. When Marcela isn't instructing in the pool, she enjoys kayaking and bowling.

Margaret began teaching Swim Lessons at our Y in 2013. She specializes in all types of lessons, from parent/children, youth beginners, competitive teen swimmers, and adults new to the water. When she's not instructing in the pool, Emma enjoys reading, watching sitcoms, and teaching Latin.

Molly began teaching Swim Lessons at our Y in 2024. She specializes in Parent/Child lessons, Levels 1-3 for beginners, and teaching swimmers with adaptive needs. Molly is in school for elementary education and feels very confident in teaching littles. She also loves to lesson plan, incorporating lots of different games and activities. When she's not instructing in the pool, Emma enjoys singing and playing piano.

Noah serves as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor for Group and Private Lessons at our Southeast Y. He grew up swimming competitively and recreationally and loves to give back and teach other people in the community. Reagan has been teaching Swim Lessons at our Y since 2015. She has experience teaching people of all ages and needs, but especially enjoys instructing nervous beginners. Reagan is a Red Cross Water Safety-certified instructor who has coached swimming and diving. When she's not in the pool, Reagan is an opera singer studying voice at IU's Jacobs School of Music.

Violet began teaching Swim Lessons at our Y in 2024. She specializes in Parent/Child lessons, as well as Levels 1-3 for children and competitive teen lessons. When she's not instructing in the pool, Violet enjoys playing the cello.
